In this project, 3rd year accounting students will tackle a tax problem of your choosing, and conduct in depth research to develop actionable recommendations. These highly motivated students are on the CPA track and are interested in careers in tax and accounting; this project is a great opportunity to engage their expertise and connect with potential hires.
The top 5 student teams (as determined by the instructor) will present:
- 5-10 page report highlighting key insights from research and recommendations (1 per group)
- 5-10 minute executive presentation that you can attend in person or virtually

Project Examples
These students understand how the fundamental of tax systems apply to tax payers and the various forms of business organizations from a tax perspective. Student teams will engage in working on a tax related problem/opportunity of your choosing. Your financial data is not required for this project; students can perform secondary research to develop their recommendations.
Students can address various areas of tax, including but not limited to:
- personal Canadian income tax and GST/HST systems/processes
- routine calculations for individuals and corporations
- assessment of general tax issues, compliance requirements, and residency for individual taxpayers
- assessment of tax planning opportunities to maximize cash flow and ROI
- any tax issue pertaining to business decision making
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available to review final submissions for the top 5 teams, and attend their final presentations, either in person or virtually.
Be available to answer emails or phone calls from time to time over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
