How companies will benefit:
This course (BUSI 660) serves as the capstone/exit course for the UCW MBA students, indicating that small businesses will have the opportunity to collaborate with final-term MBA students. These students already possess diverse academic and professional backgrounds before enrolling in the MBA program. Now, they are just one term away from obtaining their MBA degree. This presents a great opportunity for small businesses to engage with MBA students who will actively contribute throughout various stages, from diagnosing problems and challenges to crafting proposals and executing final project reports and presentations. Likewise, students will gain invaluable firsthand, real-world experiences by collaborating with small businesses.
Learners
Students will collaborate with the small business throughout the Winter 2025 term (a 10-week long term starting on January 13) and will provide the following deliverables:
(1) Organizational diagnosis, (2) project proposal based on the diagnosis as well as the small business' needs, (3) revised proposal, and (4) final project report and presentation.
Instructions to the potential client (small business owner):
1. The business must be a legally registered and ongoing small business.
2. The business must be based in Canada.
3. The business owner should be willing to collaborate with the four student groups (around five or six students per group) throughout the term. Communication can be conducted virtually.
4. The business owner should be willing to dedicate one hour per week to engage with students, respond to their queries, etc.
5. For confidentiality and data privacy purposes, the business owner as well as each student are expected to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). The instructor can provide the NDA form.
6. If the business owner agrees to the aforementioned points, an initial virtual meeting will be arranged with the instructor. During this meeting, the instructor will discuss the course details, expectations, and other relevant information, as well as address any questions or concerns the business owner may have.
