Undergraduate students will carry out and write up a training needs analysis, select the appropriate training method and design, and evaluate the effectiveness of the training.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will meet with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 - Outcome Report and Presentation: Students will submit detailed report on the outcomes of the project. Teams will also present this in the last class. Organization representative(s) are invited to attend these presentations.

  • A 10 page training report document, that will include a training needs analysis, training design and methods, and an evaluation of the training intervention.
  • 10 minute group presentation.

Project Examples

Starting in September, a group of 3 HR student-consultants will solve a training and development challenge currently facing your business over an intensive 3 week period.

Based on the information and goals you have shared with the students, the report they provide will help you improve your current training and development processes.

Project examples could include, but are not limited to:

  • Orientation training for new employees.
  • Training to increase the work-related skills of employees.
  • Training that addresses undesired attitudes and/or beliefs in the workplace.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available to describe the challenges facing the organization to the students.

Be available to answer follow up questions and to provide feedback to students.
