A team of students with required skill sets will work on a consulting project for a retail company partner. Typically, these projects can be 6-12 weeks in duration. The project will focus on solving a specific challenge or identifying specific opportunities for the retailer. Benefits to retail partners include:

  • Talented, skilled students with relevant skill sets work on the project; teams can consist of students with different backgrounds (for instance, marketing, finance and data science), depending on the skills needed for the project
  • Faculty supervisor will oversee the project
  • At least one experienced retail executive who is affiliated with the David Sobey Centre will be a mentor/coach for the student team

Requirements

We piloted the Retail Consulting Project last year with one project. The team worked on improving the buying process and reducing inventory in certain categories for a hardware retailer. Students are capable of working on a variety of projects. Examples include:

  • Developing social media strategy or specific social media campaigns
  • Inventory management
  • Review and development of pricing strategy
  • Marketing campaign to target specific demographics or market segments
  • Customer insights research
