Details

Beginning in January, a team of 3-4 Student Consultants will dedicate 400+ hours working as a consulting team for your organization. They are in their 4th year of the Operations Management program at the Alberta School of Business. Their expertise is in data analytics and operations management. Based on the information and goals you provide, the group will develop solutions and recommendations to solve your analytical challenge.

This is a paid opportunity with a cost estimated between $5000 and $7000 (per team).

Deliverables

Mandatory deliverables:

  • Project proposal/bid
  • Project completion presentation (findings, recommendations)
  • Further deliverables are determined between the student team and your organization during the proposal phase.

Additional deliverables may include:

  • Excel model
  • Documentation
  • Source code
  • Other findings as requested and agreed upon

Past Project Examples:

  • Optimizing fire code inspection sites to maximize loss prevention
  • Modelling electricity pricing
  • Forecasting municipal growth
  • Analyzing feasibility of using 3rd-party contractors for disabled adult transit system
  • Forecasting equipment repair orders
  • Identifying optimal warehouse locations in a supply chain
  • Studying factors affecting women running in municipal elections around the province
Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Present short project summary to the class on January 11

Evaluate the team's performance

Ensure the students have access to information and people necessary for them to be successful in their projects.

Attend mid-term presentation on [early March] or arrange for students to present to you directly around this date

Pay students for satisfactory completion of work (students are asked to bid between $5000 and $7000). Non-profits are exempted.

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Attend 2 student proposals on January 25, select your preferred team, sign a contract

Attend final presentation on April 6, or arrange for students to present to you directly around this date

Create a 1-page document describing the project for students to refer to

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
