Details

The project that we are looking for participation in is the ‘Stories to Empower: The Starfish Community Spotlight Series (CSS)’. The CSS is a project focused on sharing the incredible stories and work of people within The Starfish Canada’s community. The main goal for this series is to leverage the stories of people within our community to empower and inspire others to create environmental change and take climate action within their own communities.

Deliverables

We are looking for two student writers to contribute to this project. Student one will be required to complete two separate in-depth feature articles on two different people that we will be featuring within this series. The same will be required of the second student. The articles must be between 1000 to 1500 words in length. Part of this project will also entail reviewing transcripts from interviews with the people being featured within this series to compile the relevant information necessary to write the articles. The goal for the articles is for them to be a more personal and poetic style of writing. Both students will work closely with The Starfish Canada’s Editor-in-Chief to ensure that the voice, direction, tone, and angle of the articles are cohesive.

Mentorship

Both students will work closely with The Starfish Canada’s Editorial Program Manager and Editor-in-Chief throughout the internship. The Editorial Program Manager will be the main point of contact for communication on the timeline of the articles, the submission process, and any other questions regarding the specifics of the internship. The Editor-in-Chief will be the main point of contact and support regarding reviewing the transcripts from the interviews as well as developing the overall layout, voice, direction, tone, and angle of the articles. Both students will also be required to communicate with the Editor-in-Chief when the articles are ready for revision to the students' tasks and duties can be made if necessary.

Our Editorial Leadership Team at The Starfish Canada is here to support the student writers from day one of this internship. Our main form of communication is through both email and our online Slack channel, Monday through Thursday, 9am to 4pm, EST.
