communication academic papers print media research microsoft powerpointSCBC publishes dozens of communications pieces every year to promote projects in our field of ecological stewardship. Among these articles are systematic reviews of relevant literature, which analyze the progression of research within our field. SCBC also creates outreach pieces (social media/print media/presentation decks/outreach boards) to various audiences.
We would like to collaborate with students to support our literature review process by categorizing papers and summarizing important findings. This allows us to extract and process data more easily. We would also like to collaborate on creating communications pieces for 3 different SCBC projects, Green Shores, Access to Nature, and Cats and Birds.
This will involve several different steps for the students, including:
- Familiarizing themselves with our research and the types of academic papers that we are interested in.
- Reading studies relevant to our area of research.
- Applying the categorization scheme to classify relevant studies.
- Summarizing important results from relevant studies.
- Building Powerpoint decks
- Writing social media promotions
- Creating outreach boards
Bonus steps in the process would also include:
- Working with researchers/communication experts to draft a publication based on the results.
By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:
- Understanding of our area of research and the purpose of our project
- Understanding and categorization of relevant studies
- Summarization of important information
- Understanding of how to create an impactful Powerpoint presentation
- Understanding of how to create an impactful outreach presentation
- Understanding of how to create an impactful social media message
Bonus steps would include:
- Assisting in the creation of various communication publications
Final deliverables should include
- A final report.
Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
- Our research projects
- Current understanding of our field of research
- Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
