post-production editingThis position will assist in recording, producing and editing 5 episodes of the podcast Philosophy in Film. The podcast is hosted by myself (Alain Beauclair) and Dr. Chris McTavish of Athabasca University. Each episode offers a philosophical analysis of an individual film in a way that is accessible to a general audience, and at the same time introduces the audience to basic philosophical concepts and texts.
The student will assist in the production of 5 episodes, involving all stages of recording, editing and post-production. The student will be required to attend the recording session, setting up audio and recording equipment, working the soundboard, providing bumper music, checking input levels, setting up the microphones, and so on. After the episode is recorded the student will be responsible for editing the episode, cleaning up the audio, inserting intro and outro tracks, all in conjunction with the podcast hosts. Finally, the student will be required to transfer the audio file to the appropriate format, ensure it functions and sounds good, and uploading it to the podcast hosting service.
We will be providing the student with all the hardware required to record the episode, including the rotocaster soundboard, laptop, microphones and headphones. We will also provide the student with access to Adobe Creative Cloud for sound editing (though using an equivalent alternative software is fine if the student already has access). We will provide guidance with copyright rules, how to upload files to libsyn, as well as advice on editing for content.
