Bring on learners from Durham College to be your learner-consultants, in a project-based experience. Learners will work on one main project over the experience of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Learners in this program have knowledge of the substantive law of commercial transactions and creditors' rights including the sale of goods, consumer protection, guarantees, bailment, secured transactions, bankruptcy, construction liens, agency and employment law.
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples
Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.
Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Recognizing, understanding, and evaluating various issues and using the correct terminology and concepts common in commercial law
- Reviewing commercial law problems, devising courses of action, and presenting cogent arguments
- Improving on and utilizing existing research skills to solve increasingly complex legal problems
- Researching and writing a complete memorandum of law on a reported case
- Drafting simple commercial law documents
- Supporting the needs of legal professionals
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the experience.
Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address learners’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.
Provide an opportunity for learners to present their work and receive feedback.
Provide relevant information and/or data as needed for the project.
