Bio

Hello! My name is Patricia Masika and I am a purpose-driven student with a strong passion for helping the community. As a community advocate for at-risk youth and families, my current position on the Ministerโ€™s Youth Leadership Council enables me to help many youths find their voice. Leading with the next generation of changemakers has allowed me to find two service projects, each allowing me to use my voice to benefit others for the past two years. These projects include organizing the Child Slaves Fundraiser for Lake Volta and establishing it into a non-profit organization to end child labor.

Great time management skills Excellent research skills Great public speaker

Patricia was great to work with and really showed her excellent research skills in this project, where there were many areas for her to look into and list for us. Her great time management skills was shown as she completed this detailed 80hr project in a short time span. The final presentation enhanced her great public speaking skill.

Team feedback
Patricia did a very competent and thorough task of surveying the options for applying for funding and raising revenues for our newly formed โ€˜Not for Profitโ€™ organization: Mindfulness Council of Canada. She presented an extensive report listing and commenting on many organizations, including those in the mental health field, insurance companies, and rehabilitation, while also giving some great examples of fundraising activities, likely gleaned from the many websites she surveyed. It will help our organization to find and raise revenues to support our ongoing commitment to our mandate, which is to upscale and make visible mindfulness programs across Canada. We would recommend Patricia to anyone looking to hire her, and commend her for her extensive work, which we hope will make her feel proud of helping a โ€˜not for profitโ€ with values to which she, herself, aspires. She came to us with a history of already being involved in charity work; if she wishes to remain in this type of work in her future she will likely become a star in that space! Fundraising & Grant Writing

Our organization is interested in addressing societal issues and supporting social causes. However, we are currently facing funding challenges. We would like to collaborate with students to find and complete grant applications. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our vision statement and a project we have defined. Developing a needs statement that characterizes the community problem and justifies the need for our project and funding. Identifying potential sponsors and funding opportunities that are a good fit for our organization and project (prospects research). Improving the clarity and persuasiveness of our company's grant proposal writing. Developing a Case for Support and other fund development assets; such as expression of interest templates, value proposition statement, logic model, impact statements, grant budget template, infographics, etc. Writing multiple funding proposals addressed to corporate sponsors and other potential donors. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Identifying new opportunities for community projects.

Fundraising Plan

Our organization is committed to serving the mindfulness community as well as growing awareness. However, we are a new nonprofit, and we're aiming to raise funds, becoming more established in order to be fully operational. We would like to collaborate with students to develop a fundraising plan to meet our goals. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our mission, values and goals. Researching fundraising strategies of other nonprofits, when they were at a similar stage of development. Create a summary of their research findings and provide examples. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Assisting in implementing new fundraising activities.
